In simple words
A portfolio project should show what you built, how it works and where it fails. Start with a small problem such as searching public tutorials. Document your own contribution instead of showing only a screenshot. Someone reviewing your work should be able to reproduce it and understand the evidence behind your claims.

Build your understanding
A useful portfolio project makes its goal, method and limitations visible. Recruiters and collaborators should be able to understand what you implemented, how you tested it and what remains uncertain. A small reproducible experiment is easier to assess than a large demo with undocumented claims.
