In simple words

Supervised learning fits a model using examples paired with targets. The target may be a category, as in spam detection, or a number, as in a toy height prediction task. The learning algorithm searches for relationships between inputs and targets; it does not know whether your labels are correct.

Words to know

Supervision: training information supplied through targets. Prediction: an output for a new input.

Pause here and explain the definition in one sentence without copying it. The aim is to describe what the system does, not to memorise an impressive phrase.
