01 · Understand the idea

In simple words

Classification predicts a category. A message might be labelled spam or ordinary; a support request might be labelled billing or technical. Decide what each category means before collecting labels. A model cannot resolve inconsistent label rules just by seeing more examples.

Two useful terms

Class: one possible category. Classifier: a model that predicts a category.

Build your understanding

Classification assigns an input to a category. Start with a simple baseline and choose metrics that reflect your error costs. Accuracy alone can hide poor performance when one class dominates. Always inspect which cases the classifier gets wrong.
