In simple words
Agentic AI describes systems that can make some decisions about steps or tools while working toward a goal. Compare a fixed recipe with a cook who chooses the next step based on available ingredients. More flexibility can help, but it also creates more ways to make mistakes. Many tasks work well with a predictable sequence.
Two useful terms
Workflow: a predefined sequence of steps. Autonomy: how much decision-making the system is allowed.
Build your understanding
A fixed workflow follows predefined steps. An agent can decide which step or tool to use next. More autonomy creates more possible failure paths, so it should solve a real problem. A predictable document-processing task may work best as a fixed pipeline with validation between stages.
